Can Kahoot be an effective formative and summative assessment tool?  

  1. What is the relationship of your topic to teaching and learning?

Kahoot is a tool often used in classrooms as an interactive game. It uses students’ critical thinking skills and is used to quiz students in a fun and informal way. It’s a kid-friendly and versatile tool that can be used for any subject. It’s effective for teaching because teachers are able to create their own Kahoots and lesson plans. 

  1. What are the pros, cons and risks?

Pros: 

  • Promotes collaborative teamwork
  • An easy way for the teacher to gage understanding
  • Students can make their own kahoots and share with the class
  • Fun and friendly competition
  • Students can use their creativity when it comes to questions as well as the topic within the Kahoot 

Cons/ Risks: 

  • Students can make their own usernames (could possibly be inappropriate)
  • Not every student has access to technology
  • Frustrating for students if connection is lost
  • Only possible for grades 3+
